10 year old Survival Kit

The full survival kit and two emergency blankets fit in this military (German?) ammo pouch which protects the gear well, keeps it together and allows the pouch to be put on a belt or pack easily

The two sides of the bag are just the right size to hold the two (loosely) folded mylar emergency blankets and the bandage case / survival kit

The whole kit, with two blankets and the bag weighs just 14.3 ounces. The blankets were used a few times and worked well. They were not torn so they are still useable, however folding them as tight as new ones was not easy, so they are a bit larger than the need to be

All the items fit into this bandage container easily. This container would have been used as a cup if needed, but the chap stick melted all over and the magnesium dropped lots of powder after years of rubbing the flashlight and other items in the kit. This made a mess that would have been a pain to deal with in a survival situation.

This kit contained (from top to bottom): Liquid breath freshener, a condom, 3x Alcohol swabs, half a spoon (from an MRE), emory board (ripped in half), 3x Bandaids, watchband compass, metal tweezers, desiccant pack, small dice, Flint (boy scout brand), p-58 (can opener), Bic lighter, Magnesium bar w/ Flint, Small sewing kit, AAA mini-mag w/ 3x batteries, Hose container w/ mini glow sticks, Hose container w/ Razor blades (x-acto style), Cold Weather Chap Stick (military issue), fishing line, small USA Flag

After all that time the bic lighter still worked.. It was never used, but I'm impressed that it fired up right away on the first try..

 

These cool tube containers were from a kit purchased in the 1980s. It came with lots of various caps in multiple sizes. The idea was to use whatever size tube the cap fit, cut to length for your application. tHe kit was intended for expensive drill bits, but I used it mostly for camping and fishing gear.
