Hiking is a popular recreational pastime in Arizona, as a get-away from urban living, while enjoying the beauty and wildlife of nature. Hiking season runs all year in Arizona. Of course, with unpredictable weather and fires, some trails may be closed anytime during the season. The websites for the area will usually inform you of any closures or cautions and we provide links for most of the trails in our directory Search Tucson Pictures

Hatch Operator HK 400 Gloves

Hatchs Operator HK gloves are a welcome addition to any shooters kit. They are readily available to the civilian market and are reasonable priced. I purchased a pair of Large Coyote tan gloves (#SOG-HK400) about a year ago from ATS and have been using them fairly regularly. Upon receiving the gloves, the first thing I noticed was that the palms were two different shades of brown. This was a non-issue for me as they are just gloves. The fit was excellent and weapons manipulation seemed unaffected.

These particular Hatch Operator HK gloves are made of Nomex to protect your hands from heat and flame. The black and foliage green models are made out of Kevlar for increased cut resistance. They incorporate a PVC hard knuckle protector into the design similar to the Oakley and Wiley X gloves. The difference is that Hatch decided to cover the knuckle protector, as well as the palm, with a layer of water-resistant goat skin. The ends of all of the fingers with the exception of the thumb have an additional piece of material sewn in to make the ends flat. This gives the gloves a tighter fit with more dexterity in picking up smaller objects or manipulating safeties and magazine releases. The thumbs are not sewn this way for whatever reason. The result is that a piece of material approximately ¼” stuck out past the end of my thumb and got in the way of pretty much everything that involved the use of my thumbs. Once the gloves were well used, they softened up and the fit of the thumbs improved to where it is no longer an issue. Hatch also provides a patented cut-ring that lets you remove the index finger to give you better trigger control with out the material fraying around the cut.

The Hatch Operator HK gloves have a Velcro closure around the wrist. The Velcro is very secure and I have not encountered any instances of the straps coming undone. The wrist of the glove also has elastic in it to give the glove a snug fit around your wrist. This aids in keeping dirt and debris out.

The palms of the Hatch Operator HK gloves have padding in the lower portion. This padding is not thick and I don’t feel it is really needed. I really haven’t noticed the padding change my grip at all on various handguns and rifles so there is nothing detrimental about it being there.

These gloves have held up extremely well to the use I have subjected them to. The knuckles have been smacked and knocked into things with only small nicks showing in the goat skin covering. The area around the edges of the knuckle protectors has not torn or worn through yet, which was one of my initial concerns. After using these for about a year, I would highly recommend these gloves to anyone looking for a great fitting durable pair of tactical gloves.
