Hiking is a popular recreational pastime in Arizona, as a get-away from urban living, while enjoying the beauty and wildlife of nature. Hiking season runs all year in Arizona. Of course, with unpredictable weather and fires, some trails may be closed anytime during the season. The websites for the area will usually inform you of any closures or cautions and we provide links for most of the trails in our directory Search Tucson Pictures

Sycamore Trail Hike October 2007
Review with pictures

Took a hike a few miles up Sycamore Trail then back out to the Prison Camp trail head. Here are pictures and a description of the trail up to the Sycamore Reservoir area and back to the trailhead, campground and corals at Prison Camp

Drive up Mt Lemmon, past the Fee Area (toll booth) and around the corner where The Molino Campground is located. Click here for more on Molino Campground Then up about a mile. Watch for the Prison Camp turn off on the left (west) side of the road

Drive through the campground and to the trailhead

The outhouse sits at the end of the campground with a signboard. Notices and warnings are posted here

Some shots of the trailhead and coral as the sun came up over the mountains

Looking at the tail from the parking area. There's a fire ring almost in the path and the trailhead signs are just visible behind the trees.

Signs, and a map for the trails in the area are just behind some trees from the parking area. There is a fire ring almost in the path, go figure

Signs show the trails and distances. We took the Sycamore Trail west (to the right on this map) from the parking area (the white circle) to the sign at Sycamore Reservoir the blue sign on the map. It was about 1.8 miles

Some information on the trail profiles is included
