Hiking is a popular recreational pastime in Arizona, as a get-away from urban living, while enjoying the beauty and wildlife of nature. Hiking season runs all year in Arizona. Of course, with unpredictable weather and fires, some trails may be closed anytime during the season. The websites for the area will usually inform you of any closures or cautions and we provide links for most of the trails in our directory Search Tucson Pictures

Molino Basin Trail #11

This is the 2 or 3 mile trail (depending on where stop along the way) that connects the trailhead at Prison Camp and the Molino Basin campground. We started at Prison Camp and dropped down into the Molino Basin a few hundred feet, about 2 miles east then headed back up the hill to our vehicle at the trailhead near Prison Camp. This is a nice trail, mildly rugged, used by bicycles it seems from their ruts in the middle of the trail. Great views and fairly quiet even though the road is visible to most of the trail.

The drive to this trailhead is very easy, paved roads almost all the way, just about any car and any truck can make this trip

This trail rises a bit out of the trailhead, over a draw and drops into Molino Basin. It meets the campground road then parallels it and terminates a few hundred yard west of Mt Lemmon Hwy and the Molino campground Road. There are plenty of places to park at either end of this trail. It's a casual to medium hike stating high and dropping down if you have two cars or someone to drop you off. For a more strenuous hike start low and hike up. if you walked from out house at one camp to outhouse at the other camp and back again to where you started it would be about a 5 mile hike

Some of the nice water bars on the trail. These are impressive and took a lot of work to install. They look to be doing a good job too. Some bikes are cutting ruts, but other than that this trail is in good condition
