Hiking is a popular recreational pastime in Arizona, as a get-away from urban living, while enjoying the beauty and wildlife of nature. Hiking season runs all year in Arizona. Of course, with unpredictable weather and fires, some trails may be closed anytime during the season. The websites for the area will usually inform you of any closures or cautions and we provide links for most of the trails in our directory Search Tucson Pictures

Re-Roll your Electrical Tape

Everyone knows how to re-roll Duck Tape (Duck Tape, 100 MPH  tape, etc) since we covered that in a recent article. I've been adding small rolls of duct tape to my emergency kits, tool bags, etc and noticed my electrical  tape is still on a giant roll, why not give it  try  too.. Well, this was not as successful, so here are some tips to help you out in case  you decide to re-roll electrical  tape.

So I used a sardine can key last time and I liked the ability to tie off the small roll. SO I had that in mind, I looked for something small but large enough for a 550 cord to get through easily, also wanted something cheap and easy to replace. Bingo, a standard ink pen. I also used other styles they all work fine, 550 cord can pass though them easily, and they weigh basically nothing. I think I'll roll some duct tape this way in the future too.

So you put the pen in like a drill. Keep the writing end out so you can hold it and let the pen shaft pivot around it as you roll. I used a screw driver handle to hold the big (ok normal size) tape roll

I was able to easily get 4 spools on one pen. I have no idea how long these rolls are, but this is for for small jobs, it should be plenty. The shaft of the penis in the drill so if you hold the writing end the shaft will just pivot around it smoothly

Once rolled, I cut each new mini roll off the pen (remove the ink part first) Actually I used the drill to help cut, but after a few times this way I used a decent pair of scissors which just cut right through the pen easily, that's much faster

So one pen, a drill, some tape and ten minutes later you can have mini electric tape too.

That was too easy and clever so I decided I should have other colors. This is wen the elasticity of electric tape came into play. If you let the tape stretch as it comes off the original roll it will cause weird stuff on the pen (mini roll). As the tape begins to constrict after being stretched it warps the roll a lot. This was a horrible failure with the red tape. You'll need to go much slower or just buy heavier tape so it doesn't stretch as it comes off the roll so easily.

Being one to use all the parts of my kill, I made this handy mini-Tactical pen out of the pen parts left over after making mini-rolls of tape
