Home Repair
Tool Kit
An overview with pictures
This
is an overview and review of this style
of bag for a home repair tool kit. I
am not sure of the manufacturer, but
this style of bag is very useful, The
many inside pockets allow tools to stand
upright and accessible when needed.
This bag is comfortable to carry so it's
useful at home and away and it offers
a lot of extra space for specialty tools,
parts or whatever.

The bag has no tags,
i think I bought it at a discount
hardware store or one of the
box stores. It came with an even
larger one as a set and I needed
the larger one for some power
tools (and later electronic tools)
and this bag ended up working
very well as a general tool carrier.
In the past I used the military
tool pouch similar to this one,
but with no side pockets the
military version is not much
comparison. This bag has a metal
rod sewn in around it's edge
to keep it opened. There is a
hinge where the bag closes. This
can be handy for keeping the
bag open, but restricts how much
can be crammed into the bag at
times

The collection of
tools I carry for home repairs
and most projects around the
house includes :
Hammer (like
the roofing hammer over claw
hammers) large screw drivers,
small broom, large and small
crescent wrenches, several
screwdrivers, punch, awl, chisel,
5in1 tool, set of hex (I like
the bag of the 'swiss army' style),
wire cutter, wire stripper, small
and large long nose, lineman's
pliers, channel locks, wd40,
tweezers, surgical clamps, scissors,
lights, markers, pens, pencil,
a few drill bits (lg med small,
1/4 inch hole drill, extra bit
for cordless drill / driver,
chop sticks, zip ties (various
sizes) jumpers (12 gauge) JB
Quick Weld, trash bags, tape
measure, light sticks, small
parts tubes (Nuts, bolts, screws,
wire nuts, misc small items)
In large syringe tubes that fit
nicely in tool slots in a bag
like this. I wrap a few layers
of tape around the tube so that
its cap fits very tight. The
tube with the yellow tape wrapped
around is the wood screw,s nails
and fasteners, the other is fuses,
electronic parts, small wire,
etc teflon tape, a few sizes
and types of wire and a roll
of metal strap

This all fits fairly well in
this tool bag. I leave plenty
of room to load the bag with
whatever gear I will need for
the job I'm doing. Plumbing jobs
require certain tools, electrical
jobs require others. I can add
whatever I need to the bag and
remove it later. The bag is large
enough to carry medium
length crow bars, many saws.
most hammers and a 14 volt cordless
drill

The carry straps
are nylon webbing with a plastic
hose sewn into it so that a rounded
handle is created on each side
of the bag, This design is very
comfortable even when the bag
is loaded with heavy gear. After
years of abuse these handles
are still in great shape too.
Pliers are kept on the outside
two to a pocket. A soft bag like
this stretches as it is filled,
so the pliers are kept tightly
in place and I've never had one
fall out on it's own (by accident)
in the years I've carried this
bag.The other side of the bag
carries the drill bits. sharpies
and flashlight. This stuff is
all kept pinned in place by the
gear inside pushing out. Once
the bag is empty care must be
taken to make sure the outside
pockets hold their items however.

This kit is fairly compact at
about 11 inches long, 9 inches
high and 8 inches wide

|
|
It weighs just 15
pounds when full of tools. The
sturdy handle / straps can handle
the weight of this bag fully
loaded and then some

|
|
One drawback to a bag like this
is the ease in which it accumulates
extra tools, spare parts, and
other clutter. This was a picture
of the bag before I cleaned it
out for this review

|
|
Besides twice the
amount of tools there was a handful
of dirt, dust, nuts, bolts, zip
ties, washers, etc

|
|
This repair kit
is also handy in case tools are
need in an emergency. The tools
in this kit could help in rescue
work, first aid improvisation,
transportation repair, and lots
more uses. Along with a first
aid kit and some tools
and gear for the vehicle, this fairly
portable, compact collection
of gear could potentially save
the day
