Hiking is a popular recreational pastime in Arizona, as a get-away from urban living, while enjoying the beauty and wildlife of nature. Hiking season runs all year in Arizona. Of course, with unpredictable weather and fires, some trails may be closed anytime during the season. The websites for the area will usually inform you of any closures or cautions and we provide links for most of the trails in our directory Search Tucson Pictures

Flying in a Embraer RJ-135 a tiny Commercial Airplane

We recently flew in a very small commercial airplane the Embraer RJ-135 while traveling across the US. We are tall and fat, so this was an interesting adventure to say the least. This is written as a reminder to anyone tall and / or fat that might travel. Pay attention to what plane you fly on and ask if you are not sure if the seats will be comfortable. According to some messageboards I read (after the flight) seats in row 9 are the best on these planes.. we didn't sit in row 9 though

This is the first time during a commercial flight that I've left the airport and walked to the plane on the run way.

When we arrived in Tucson we pulled up to a 'regular' gate and walked right into the airport

Inside the a Embraer RJ-135. Just three seats across. One on it's own, then two next to each other under the overhead storage.

This plane would be a good size for a private airplane but with 37 seats, it is a bit crowded

Saving a few dollars was hardly worth the lack of comfort and distance we walked to reach the connecting flight. My advice to travelers is to check out the plane on which you are booked. And check your gates for connecting flights. We almost missed this flight because we needed to walk from the 'regular' portion of the airport, out to the extreme end of the small gates

Travelers would do well to check your gates on connecting flights. Some travel agents don't bother to check that it is possible to make a connecting flight on extreme ends of a large airport
